Final Exam Blog Post !

During my Fall semester of 2015, Electronic Media Production 2 (BC 203) has given me and other students a hands on approach for learning the skills of media. The course taught us how to use social media such as Pinterest, Twitter, Blogspot and LinkedIn, and how to understand today’s professional communication skills. You have to be social to reach desired audiences and be diverse. This course has been about social media and multi media, such as teaching us how to do video, green screen, editing layouts and design.

In this class I have created blogs, and added several content. I was taught how to launch new social media sites and I have used cutting edge tools and applications such as Prezi, Kizoa and green screen/ chroma key.

This course is an important step in a student's advancement towards becoming a mass media and communication professional. The tools that we have learned will help us progress in the communications field. It helps you progress in social and media skills. Overall it enhances your future in the communication and mass media fields. If it wasn't for my wonderful teacher, Patrick Harwood, I wouldn't have learned the great skills I know now.

The online social network Twitter enables me to send and read 140 character messages aka “tweets.” I’m not as active as I used to be on twitter. I used to have long conversations with friends and associates, now you will catch me sometimes just tweeting about an event.

My twitter name is Kiiyah Love. Three users that I follow are: Power105.1, Wendy Williams, Lala Anthony. I follow Power 105.1 because I intend to intern there or work there with the infamous CharlemagnethaGod. Wendy Williams and Lala Anthony are two of my idols that I look at for inspiration to push forward in my career.
Above is my Twitter account with previous tweets. Check out my whole page here.

LinkedIn is a social network that is geared toward business. It contains an online directory of professionals and companies. Its place in today’s society is to connect the world’s professionals and make them more productive and successful. It also gives you a faster access to insight and trustful resources.

It is essential for young professionals to have it to seek future jobs and other connections. You want to have a nice quality account, so that anyone who views your page can easily access important information. This helps you build your network of contacts.

LinkedIn is for networking, job searching, hiring, and connecting with affiliates, including alumni industry, and a variety of other business related groups. It's quick and easy to get started using LinkedIn. All you do is sign up and create a profile. There are two choices of membership - Basic and Premium. Premium cost but goes into categories of "Job Seeker," "Sales Navigator," "Recruiter Lite" and "Business Plus.”

Prezi is a cloud-based presentation software and storytelling tool for presenting ideas on a virtual canvas. It is kind of similar to powerpoint but more like an upgraded version. The product uses a zooming user interface, which allows users to zoom in and out of their presentation media.

Prezi differs from Powerpoint in that it is a web-based program that allows you to create more of a canvas presentation instead of a sequential slide presentation. It allows you to incorporate videos instead of just text and pictures. You can create your presentation online and then download the final product so that you don’t require an internet connection to display the presentation.

I use Prezi for class presentations. My last Prezi was on the subject of cheerleading being a sport. I incorporated videos and pictures explaining my point. I like how there are different templates and designs to choose from. I dislike how it is somewhat complicated to use. You have to be very computer savvy to understand how to work it at first.  Here is a link to my recent Prezi.

The Green Screen “Quick Takes” Video involved each student to mash a moving video and themselves merged together. I did my video using imovie and used videos of me on my skywalker, the SCSU Cheerleaders and the cafeteria. In each video I talked about something Knowledgeable about each subject.

I learned how to join videos together and hopefully next time I can put myself in front of a weather screen, and do the weather forecast. This technology is commonly used for things such as the weather and movies when they add fx effects and crazy scenes. Here is a link to my “Quick Takes” video:  https://youtu.be/CX49xiONS_g

Kizoa is an online slideshow maker, collage creator & photo editor. It works by you uploading pictures from either the internet or your files from your computer and they will put them together. It can be used for presentations for school purposes, jobs, or even family events. You gather all of the memorable pictures and are able to share them in a creative way.

I like that you can add effects and graphics along with music to your slideshow. What I don’t like is that you cant add video. My Kizoa creation was a show of the recent Christmas Parade downtown Orangeburg, SC. It shares the wonderful moments of several schools, clubs and organizations celebrating the most wonderful time of the year. Check out the parade here: http://www.kizoa.com/Movie-Maker/d28052742k2037411o1l1/harwood-kizoa-project

Kizoa Slideshow!!

The Kizoa project consisted of multiple slideshows and pictures accumulated together.
I chose to shoot the amazing Christmas parade that was held downtown Orangeburg, SC on Dec. 6.
The parade included several organizations, clubs and schools.
Why not share this beautiful event by doing so with Kizoa!

Kiiyah Takes On Green Screen Video

I always had the idea of being on green screen, and looking's if I was actually in a moving shot.  I depicted myself as maybe me in a crowd walking, or on a television show, but it looks interactive. Unfortunately I was unable to do this but with more practice I soon will be able to. From my first try this is what I accomplished. Take a look at my green screen project below:

The project consisted of us doing a video and commenting on it.

Why Cheerleading is a Sport!

Mr Prezi Presentation was based on Cheerleading. There is a huge controversy on if cheerleading is a sport or not. My opinion....It most definitely is! Check out the presentation above to find all the reasons why it is.

Get to know Mr. Jones

Anthony "Sterling" Jones is a sophomore, Broadcasting Communications major here at the illustrious South Carolina State University. Jones is from Charlotte, NC and decided to attend SC State when he received the full presidential scholarship.

As a young child, Anthony’s grandfather would record him and his brother as they made their own television productions. After they were recorded and finished they would show them to their parents. He became interested in photography and video, and also became an outspoken person. With all his talents he chose to incorporate all of his interest. By his senior year he decided to major in Broadcasting Communications.

As a former member of the best band in the land, the Marching 101, Anthony has traded his instrument in to be Vice President for the SGA class of 2018. On his spare time he likes to listen to music, dj, party, eat, shop and play basketball. He is also the creator of “Wake Up State.” Wake Up State was created by Jones in the Summer of 2015. It is a web series that provides a source to stay in tune with campus buzz, trending topics, and overall news. The concept of the series was at first just a thought and followed by action. As a freshman he considered creating something on his own to inform students.

Jones stated, "Once you make it through the night, tomorrow's always a brighter day." His original quote is what he lives by everyday.  He says, "I'm a big believer in perseverance and finishing things you start as well as setting final goals.” His other inspiration is the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Jones expressed that King was able to lead one of the biggest social political movements of all time. He fought for what he believed in and no matter what circumstance he prevailed and changed lives forever. Being a leader at school and his community, Mr. Jones intends to relate and change people’s lives as well.

His post college plans are to be in radio or a television broadcaster and he aspires to be working with BET, Power98 and also traveling. Mr. Jones stated "I want to help the black community, the youth and just empower them. I want to teach young men how to dress professional and how to survive in college." Mr. Jones has great things ahead of him.

My First Green Screen Project!

In class I was able to learn how to do green screen for the first time! Green screen is used as a background for subjects to be filmed in front. It allows a separately filmed background to be added to the final image. Green is used often because it's easiest for most modern cameras to pick up, it's also a less common clothing color. With adobe premiere I uploaded both images and used green screen effects to combine the two.

I wanted to reenact the photo of the teen who petitioned his school to let him use his cat theme photo for the yearbook. I found it quite hilarious and also just wanted to use the cool 80's theme background.

Here is my photo in front of the green screen:
Here is my Photo after editing:

It would've been better if I had the cat as well. Also with more practice I will be able to blend them better.

Twitterrrrr!!!

When Twitter came out it was kind of a hard transition. Since everyone was on Facebook during this time it was a major step and change because you couldn't do as much as Facebook. After awhile i just started babbling on and on and typing and typing getting up to hundreds of tweets. If you are new to twitter you have to get the hang of just talking about certain topics or (tweeting). Maybe follow some people and go to trending topics to see what all the gossip is on the street. Twitter is very opinionated, you can view how someone feels on any issue and you can express how you feel as well. Any interest you have you can find by simply typing in a # Hashtag.

Jack Dorsey, the creator of twitter, created it in 2006. As a child his obsession with how emergency dispatches communicated led to his idea of twitter. Twitter is one of the largest social marketing platforms.

Lala Anthony                Wendy Williams      Charlemagne Da God

Any news that you need, rather entertainment or sports you can always find it there. Three users that I follow are: Power105.1, Wendy Williams, Lala Anthony and 4starcasting. I follow Power 105.1 because I intend to intern there or work there with the infamous CharlemagnethaGod. Wendy Williams and Lala Anthony are two of my idols that I look at for inspiration to push forward in my career. Four Star casting is a huge casting company that keeps me informed with casting calls to pursue acting.

LinkedIn for Dummies!

LinkedIn is a social network used for professional networking. Everyone and anyone can use it, but it is mainly used for business purposes. People who are looking to connect, trade and work use this as a professional outlet. The things I like about linkedIn is that they keep a clean profile and you can put your skills, endorsements and organizations for viewers to view.

Many of my connections on there, have set their profile up to basically promote their skills for their careers. On one profile my friend has put her courses that she has taken. All of them relate to the field that she wants to work in. This is positive because now bosses can see what experience and credibility she has. Another good thing that I viewed was an upload of a resume. This way someone who is interested in hiring, will be able to see this as well.

The way they are set up I feel that all aspects of linkedIn are important from listing previous or ongoing jobs and the rest of the contributions you have. With my linked in site I hope to find other people with my interest that can hopefully work with me and further advance my career opportunities.
