Classic Lighting Techniques

In class we learned about basic lighting and how it can be used to look proper and professional. We also viewed a video that gives the basics by covering four simple and classic one-light portrait setups.





   

         
Rembrandt Lighting- 45 degree lighting, consist of the fill light, key light and back light.                                                                
                                                                 












Split Lighting- 90 degree lighting, set at subjects eye level.











                                                                                                         







Broad Lighting- subject face turned a bit off center.












Butterfly Lighting- place the main light source above and directly behind the camera which creates a shadow under the nose.

It was fun to take pictures of my subject, demonstrating the three common lighting applications used by photographers. I worked with classmates to arrange studio lights and complete the different forms of lighting. Thanks to Connie Maybin for being a great subject.

That's Some Good Lighting!!

On Tuesday October 25th, 2016 my Advanced Television Production class with Mr. Harwood, went outside to take pictures with and without light reflectors. This activity was called the outdoor bounce light activity. You can see how harsh the lighting was in the first picture of my classmate, Justin.

• I enjoyed participating in the three lighting “looks” activity. We were able to see the difference between using the reflector and not using it. The reflector really improved the quality of the pictures taken. It made a great difference in lighting when used. Would you like to improve your lighting? 5 Questions & Green Screen!

Below is an updated version of my green screen recording "5 questions" shot by me, with Lynn McGrier and Alexis Rabb. I added a background that I created. I used chroma key in Adobe Premiere. 

I dragged the background shot in video channel 1 and the other in video channel 2. I then went to the effects tool to find "keying", clicked on ultra key and the dropper. By clicking in the green screen area it blended my new background with the video.

 I also adjusted the length of the image to fit the video. After adding the background and exporting the video, I was very pleased with my video.

5 Cool Questions!

Last week I was given the opportunity to record the lovely Ms. Lynn McGrier and Alexis Rabb. My two subjects and I worked on a project called 5 questions, where Lynn specifically asked Alexis five certain questions.  At first it was a little complicated trying to get certain angles, from where I was. I was also irritated by certain people of authority who were doing the most, then just trying to help the situation. I don't think this was a good day for me, nor is it my best work. I hope you enjoy and enjoy the bloopers at well :)

Another thing I had a problem with was rendering the video. As you can see the first clip came out blurry, although the regular recording isn't blurry. 

Motion Sequence With Harwood!

In Class, my favorite teacher Mr. Patrick Harwood showed us demonstrations of motion videos. He taught us how to jump into the next shots and scene, so that we could produce our own video. I used steady tripod shots, and allowed my subject to walk in and out of the shots. Hope you enjoy!

Everything went smooth and easy. He received a phone call and it was time for him to head off. I chose the music to match his personality in the video...Entertaining! 

GATHERING MY LIFE AGAIN! (MY SUMMER)

WHAT DID I DO THIS SUMMER??? WELL MY SUMMER WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE BUT I REALLY ENJOYED IT. GOING BACK AND FOURTH BETWEEN ORANGEBURG AND NEW JERSEY, IT WAS AN ADVENTURE. I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND MY FIRST ATLANTA GREEN PICNIC (NEO FEVER) AND HAD SO MUCH FUN WITH MY LS'S (LINE SISTERS). WE HAD ADVENTURES IN ORANGEBURG EVERYDAY, TRYING TO DISCOVER NEW THINGS TO DO. OH! ALMOST FORGOT I WORKED AT 93.7 FM THE PEOPLES STATION IN ORANGEBURG TO! WHEN I ARRIVED BACK TO NEW JERSEY I WORKED AT THE BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES WHERE I DID PAPER WORK FOR PEOPLE APPLYING FOR WELFARE. IT'S REALLY NOT A JOB I ENJOY BUT IT DOES PAY GOOD AND HAS BENEFITS. I WENT OUT A COUPLE OF TIMES WITH CO-WORKERS AND FRIENDS, BUT I WOULD BE TOO TIRED TO DO ANYTHING. OF COURSE I ALSO SPENT TIME WITH MY FAMILY BEFORE LEAVING FOR SCHOOL AS WELL. MY OUTLOOK FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR IS TO EXCEL AND SUCCEED IN MY ASPIRING CAREER FIELD. I WANT TO NETWORK AND WORK AS MUCH AS I CAN SO I CAN HAVE AN INTERNSHIP OR JOB WAITING FOR ME BEFORE I GRADUATE.

Final Exam Blog Post !

During my Fall semester of 2015, Electronic Media Production 2 (BC 203) has given me and other students a hands on approach for learning the skills of media. The course taught us how to use social media such as Pinterest, Twitter, Blogspot and LinkedIn, and how to understand today’s professional communication skills. You have to be social to reach desired audiences and be diverse. This course has been about social media and multi media, such as teaching us how to do video, green screen, editing layouts and design.

In this class I have created blogs, and added several content. I was taught how to launch new social media sites and I have used cutting edge tools and applications such as Prezi, Kizoa and green screen/ chroma key.

This course is an important step in a student's advancement towards becoming a mass media and communication professional. The tools that we have learned will help us progress in the communications field. It helps you progress in social and media skills. Overall it enhances your future in the communication and mass media fields. If it wasn't for my wonderful teacher, Patrick Harwood, I wouldn't have learned the great skills I know now.

The online social network Twitter enables me to send and read 140 character messages aka “tweets.” I’m not as active as I used to be on twitter. I used to have long conversations with friends and associates, now you will catch me sometimes just tweeting about an event. 

My twitter name is Kiiyah Love. Three users that I follow are: Power105.1, Wendy Williams, Lala Anthony. I follow Power 105.1 because I intend to intern there or work there with the infamous CharlemagnethaGod. Wendy Williams and Lala Anthony are two of my idols that I look at for inspiration to push forward in my career.

LinkedIn is a social network that is geared toward business. It contains an online directory of professionals and companies. Its place in today’s society is to connect the world’s professionals and make them more productive and successful. It also gives you a faster access to insight and trustful resources. 

It is essential for young professionals to have it to seek future jobs and other connections. You want to have a nice quality account, so that anyone who views your page can easily access important information. This helps you build your network of contacts. 

LinkedIn is for networking, job searching, hiring, and connecting with affiliates, including alumni industry, and a variety of other business related groups. It's quick and easy to get started using LinkedIn. All you do is sign up and create a profile. There are two choices of membership - Basic and Premium. Premium cost but goes into categories of "Job Seeker," "Sales Navigator," "Recruiter Lite" and "Business Plus.”

Prezi is a cloud-based presentation software and storytelling tool for presenting ideas on a virtual canvas. It is kind of similar to powerpoint but more like an upgraded version. The product uses a zooming user interface, which allows users to zoom in and out of their presentation media. 

Prezi differs from Powerpoint in that it is a web-based program that allows you to create more of a canvas presentation instead of a sequential slide presentation. It allows you to incorporate videos instead of just text and pictures. You can create your presentation online and then download the final product so that you don’t require an internet connection to display the presentation.

 I use Prezi for class presentations. My last Prezi was on the subject of cheerleading being a sport. I incorporated videos and pictures explaining my point. I like how there are different templates and designs to choose from. I dislike how it is somewhat complicated to use. You have to be very computer savvy to understand how to work it at first.  Here is a link to my recent Prezi.

The Green Screen “Quick Takes” Video involved each student to mash a moving video and themselves merged together. I did my video using imovie and used videos of me on my skywalker, the SCSU Cheerleaders and the cafeteria. In each video I talked about something Knowledgeable about each subject. 

 I learned how to join videos together and hopefully next time I can put myself in front of a weather screen, and do the weather forecast. This technology is commonly used for things such as the weather and movies when they add fx effects and crazy scenes. Here is a link to my “Quick Takes” video:  https://youtu.be/CX49xiONS_g   

 Kizoa is an online slideshow maker, collage creator & photo editor. It works by you uploading pictures from either the internet or your files from your computer and they will put them together. It can be used for presentations for school purposes, jobs, or even family events. You gather all of the memorable pictures and are able to share them in a creative way. 

I like that you can add effects and graphics along with music to your slideshow. What I don’t like is that you cant add video. My Kizoa creation was a show of the recent Christmas Parade downtown Orangeburg, SC. It shares the wonderful moments of several schools, clubs and organizations celebrating the most wonderful time of the year.
